The Headlines

Three forwards is cool again

The premium forwards all had a pretty rough week again this week. Cancelo blanked, Trent was agonizingly subbed minutes before he could score clean sheet points, Robbo started on the bench and Chelsea defenders kept being Chelsea defenders. Meanwhile, at the other end of the pitch, things are looking a bit more lively! With players like Toney, Kane, Mitrovic and Haaland all performing well, as well as the forwards with upcoming good fixtures to consider like Isak, Solanke and Watkins, it feels like having £4.5m bench fodder is a waste of space.

Forwards haven’t been that popular in FPL over the last season or two, given that they get less points for goals and have a tougher time accumulating BPS than defenders or midfielders. This season is the first time in a while that managers have had a smorgasbord of tasty in-form forward options to choose from!

From Mo Salah to No Salah?

There’s been a lot of talk about whether the Egyptian King is justifying his £13.0m price tag. At the time of writing, he’s the second most transferred out player this week behind the injured Rodrigo. His ownership currently sits at 48.8%, which is the first time I think I can remember seeing it sub-50%! With a fair few managers choosing to wildcard this week, I wouldn’t be surprised to see that number drop even lower.

Liverpool do have some tougher fixtures coming up, but I’m not sure at home to Wolves will be one of them. Wolves have certainly looked quite solid defensively, with the lowest number of goals conceded in the league, but it’s worth bearing in mind that they have only played a single top 5 team in that time. Enjoy these moments where Salah could potentially be a bit of a differential, because they don’t come around very often.

So how did I get on this week?

Feels Good Man

Toney

Just when I was starting to wish I had Mitrovic instead, he comes through for me in a big way with three goals and a 17 point haul! Don’t be surprised to see teams featuring both of these cheap, high-scoring forwards in upcoming wildcards.

Captain Haaland

Pep clearly knows that you can’t have too much of a good thing. Another start for Haaland and back in the goals again. It will be interesting to see how he does for minutes in their Champions League game tonight, because you would expect that Pep wants him firing on all cylinders against Spurs at the weekend.

Feels Bad Man

Chelsea Defenders

Probably about time I cut my losses with this absolute stinker of a double-up. James is still 8th for xG and 4th for xA amongst all defenders despite playing RCB for a few games, so I imagine I’ll keep him on for his higher ceiling.

What a rollercoaster this season has proven to be so far! Here’s hoping I can manage to string two green arrows together at some point!
